Obituary for Earl Grafton Miller

Earl Grafton Miller
Earl Grafton Miller, 66, of Montross, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at The Orchard in Warsaw, VA after a 38-year battle with multiple sclerosis. He was born in Fort Knox, KY, the son of the late James Edward Miller and Connie Ellington Miller.

Earl is survived by his wife of 41 years, Louise Elkins Miller, of Montross; his brother, James Edward Miller II (Karen), of Catlett; two nephews, Devon Sterling Miller (Whitney) of Alexandria and Michael William Wigen (Nicole) of Herndon; and three grand nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Helen E. Kirby (Fred) of Quinton. He was predeceased by nephew Colin Michael Miller of Montross.

Earl worked for Brooks And Elliot Inc of Tappahannock, building custom cabinets for 20 years and retiring in 1998, after which he applied his considerable woodworking skills to building and repairing guitars and building custom furniture for family and friends.

Earl played lead guitar in a variety of bands, beginning in Spangdahlem, Germany in 1965, and most recently with the praise band at his church.

A celebration of Earl's life will be held at the Rappahannock Church of Christ, 4324 Richmond Rd. in Warsaw on Saturday, 11 November, at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Earl's memory to the National MS Society, Richmond Office, (4200 Innslake Drive, Suite 301, Glen Allen, VA 23060) or Riverside Tappahannock Hospice, (289 Hospital Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560).
