Margaret Clark Bowdler, 92, of Sharps, VA, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2017.
Mrs. Bowdler was born in Iron Gate, Virginia on September 15, 1924 to the Reverend Doctor and Mrs. James Calloway Clark. She graduated from the University of Richmond (Westhampton) with a degree in Biology, and she taught biology at Tufts University. She also met her husband, Ambassador William Garton Bowdler at the University of Richmond. They were married for seventy years. Mrs. Bowdler served alongside her husband as the Ambassadress in El Salvador, Guatemala, and the Republic of South Africa. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook, a passionate gardener, and an avid reader. She was also a faithful member of Milden Presbyterian Church where she served in many capacities over the years, particularly Presbyterian Women Circles and Missions. Like her mother, she had a keen interest in the Snow Family history and the history of the Northern Neck.
Mrs. Bowdler is survived by her daughter, Ann Sullivan of Neptune City, NJ; son, Charles Bowdler (Mitzi) of Jackson, MS; daughter-in-law, Bobbye Jean Bowdler of Sharps, VA, nine grandchildren, Cal, Kristin, Thomas, Katherine, Andrew, Jonathan, Sarah, William, and David; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Margaret Clark, by her sister Ann Bowie Little, by her husband William Bowdler and by her son, James Calloway Bowdler.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 5 at 11: a.m. at Milden Presbyterian Church in Sharps, VA. The family will receive friends after the service.
