Obituary for Earl Thomas Dodson Jr.

Earl Thomas Dodson, Jr. 85, of Heathsville passed away May 2, 2023.

Earl was born in Upland, Pennsylvania on January 11, 1938 to Earl Thomas Dodson, Sr. and Edith Mae (Talley) Dodson. He graduated from Northumberland High School in 1957 and served as a military policeman in the U.S. Army at Fort Monroe in Norfolk, Virginia. Earl worked as a papermaker for Scott Paper Company in Chester, Pennsylvania for 32 years and has spent the last 33 years retired in Northumberland County, Virginia pursuing his favorite pastime, golf. This includes playing golf, watching golf, talking about golf, reading about golf, and teaching his grandchildren to golf. Earl also loved to garden, take long walks, eat crabs, and play with his great-grandchildren.

Earl was a 64-year active Mason. He was Master of Heathsville #109 for six years and District Deputy Grand Master in 2014, as well as a member of the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Callao Moose Lodge and the American Legion.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, Robert Allen Dodson of Evansville, Indiana.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 66 years, Ethel G. Dodson; his daughters, Debra Palmer (David) and Sandra Chism (Larry); six grandchildren: Kristen Moss (Matt), Leanne Jacobs (Kyle), Dean Palmer, Erin Remington (Brandon), Allison Chism and Brandon Chism; six great-grandchildren: Andrew, McKenzie, Carson, Annabelle, Jolie, and Palmer; his three sisters: Irene Bell, Barbara Fisher, and Delores Augustine; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held later this month.

In honor of his memory donations can be made in Earl’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
