Nancy Bronce Sams, 99, born on September 21, 1923 to the late Vincent Zukowski and the late Veronica Molis Zukowski passed away on May 2, 2023 at Farnham Manor, Virginia. She was the last of thirteen children. Her husband Jacob Leonard Sams passed away in 2003. She leaves two children, L. Wayne Sams (Joanie) of Fletcher, NC and Dorothy V. Paul (David) of Lottsburg, VA. Nancy is also survived by three grandchildren: Michael Coseo of Lorton, VA, Shawn Bergman of Stafford, VA, and Joshua Sams of Matthews, NC; one step-grandson Jason Paul of Clearwater, FL; and four great-grandchildren: Sawyer Sams, Savannah Sams, Ryanne Bergman, and Gabriel Bergman.
Nancy worked for the War Production Board from 1942 – 1944; the Department of Justice from 1944 – 1975 (Civil Division) as well as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from 1972 – 1973 and retired from the DOJ in 1975. Nancy was awarded many honorary certificates at the DOJ and met Robert Kennedy (Attorney General) and worked with William Ruckelshaus, Administrator of the EPA. She was a life member of the American Legion. Nancy loved to polka and she loved dogs (especially her Sandy, Ginger, Tracy and Pebbles).
A Funeral Mass to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Tappahannock, VA at 10:00 a.m. with Father Gerald Musuubire officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Quantico National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. that afternoon.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you honor Nany's love pf animals and children by making+ a donation in Nancy's loving memory to either the ASPCA or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
