Obituary for Dale Keith Cunningham

Dale Keith Cunningham, 82, of Lottsburg, Virginia, known to many as either Keith or Dale, passed away on Monday, April 10th 2023, surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with cancer. He loved his family, was devoted to his community, was an independent contractor, told lots of family stories, had passionate opinions about many things, and worked hard to have a positive impact in the communities where he lived.

Keith was born and raised in East Liverpool, OH, and then moved to Fairfax Virginia. He started out working for the County of Fairfax where he met his wife to be, Carol. He built his own successful water and sewer company, which was implemental in the development of Reston, Lake Ridge, Springfield, Dale City and the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant. He loved boating and the bay. Keith and Carol made Lottsburg their waterfront home where they spent many years entertaining family, friends, and their boating community. He stayed busy in later years by sharing his construction and landscaping talents with his Northern Neck Community---helping to build the new, Town of Tappahannock Municipal Center, sewage treatment plant and water tower, Warsaw Courthouse and Jail, Lancaster County Judicial Complex, along with many other projects. He was an active member in the development and maintenance of the Wright’s Cove Community. His favorite pastimes were watching the Nationals Baseball Team play, Ohio State college football, and looking out his library windows at the beautiful waters of Wright’s Cove.

Keith is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol Lee Thompson Cunningham. Together they had four children—Christine Curley (Ken), Dale Cunningham Jr., Andrea Palsha (Larry), and Bryan Cunningham (Stephanie); his six grandchildren – Nicole, Holly, Katie, Matthew, Hayden, and Mallory; his six great-grandchildren—Carson, Aidan, Lilly, Kadence, Owen, and Hudson; and lots of nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Leonard & Macie; his brothers David (Sandy) and Glenn (Jo Ann); and his sister Joyce Curry (Joey).

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Wind Vineyards, 854 Dunbrooke Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560. Light refreshments will be served.
