Obituary for Shirley Carlson Hundley

Shirley Carlson Hundley, also known lovingly as “Nana” and “Shortie”, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. She was born on July 19, 1952 in Kinsale, Virginia to the late Emory Leverence Carlson, Sr. and Delia Griffith Carlson. Shirley retired from her position as secretary for District 15 of the Department of Juvenile Justice after 40 years.

Shirley was known as a strong, independent, devoted, hard worker. Her family meant everything to her and she adored her grandchildren. She supported them at every volleyball, softball, baseball, and field hockey game. She had a love for Westerns- especially John Wayne! Shirley was a skilled blue crab-picker and was faster than anyone she had met. She enjoyed being outside, playing Yahtzee, and caring for her vegetable garden. Every holiday and birthday was special because of her delicious, big meals; especially her lasagna and mashed potatoes.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Lynn Wallace (Scott); her three beloved grandchildren, Hailey, Austin, and Michelle Wallace; her brother, Emory L. Carlson, Jr; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is predeceased by her parents.

A memorial service for Shirley will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Bethany Baptist Church in Callao with the Reverend Kori Kiss officiating. The family will receive friends at the church starting at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would love donations to be made to the Colon Cancer Foundation, 10 Midland Ave, Suite M-06, Port Chester, NY 10573 or the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Richmond, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
