Obituary for John Alexander Thomas
Reverend John Alexander Thomas, 96, of Farnham peacefully exchanged his earthly life for his heavenly one on Monday, March 20, 2023, at home with his daughter by his side.
John was born in Mobile, Alabama , one of sixteen children of the late Robert Otis Thomas and Lottie Mae Hammond Thomas. He is the widower of Lucille Croxton Thomas. John was the founder of the Warsaw Church of God and the senior pastor until his retirement. He was a very proud WWII veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign including Okinawa, Iwo Jima, the Phillipines and many other islands. Several years after being discharged from the Navy, John felt the calling of God to the ministry. He attended Lee College and later graduated from Lynchburg College with honors. He dedicated forty-six years of his life pastoring churches in Alabama and Virginia, seven years evangelizing, and many years as a counselor to numerous people.
Cherishing his memories on earth are his children, Virginia Thomas Hinson, (Tom), James Alan Thomas, and one brother, Billy Thomas (Florence), his grandchildren, Michelle Renee Thomas, Wendy Thomas, Jonathan Ambrose (Brianna), Lisa Michelle Giri (Nanda), Joseph Michael Thomas (Nikki), Kyle Thomas (Andi), Katie Hannick, Mary Thomas and fourteen great-grandchildren. Pastor Thomas was pre-deceased by his parents, Robert Otis Thomas and Lottie Mae Hammond Thomas, his wife of seventy years, Lucille Croxton Thomas, and his sons, Robert Marvin Thomas and John Wesley Thomas, and his grandson, Christopher Lawson Ambrose, and fourteen siblings.
A funeral service will be held at Warsaw Church of God on Saturday, March 25, 2023, with the Rev. Robert E. Hinson officiating and the Rev. Dana Carrier assisting. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM, one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial and military honors will immediately follow the service. A reception will be hosted in the fellowship hall.
