Virginia Minerva Huff Bolt, of Lottsburg, peacefully passed away one month shy of her 101st birthday. Virginia was born in Carroll County, Virginia, to the late Ballard Preston Huff and the late Alverta Virginia Wright Huff and was the youngest and last surviving of their thirteen children. She was the widow of Oscar “Bill” Dayton Bolt, the co-founder and co-proprietor of Bolt’s Saw Service, Inc. Virginia was a member of Cobham Park Baptist Church.
As a young couple, Virginia and Bill moved to follow work as Bill was working in various sawmills and gaining experience as a saw filer. They spent time in Maryland and Ohio before settling in the 1960’s in the Northern Neck for good to raise their family and grow the business that Bill and their son Dayton started in 1985. Bolt’s Saw Service is now in its proud fourth generation of family-owned operations and has grown to serve customers in a wide area. Virginia’s love and support helped provide a very strong foundation for the family business.
As a young woman, Virginia worked at the cotton mill in Danville, Virginia and as a cook in various restaurants. After settling down, she turned her cooking skills into amazing home-cooked meals for her family. She worked locally in the old Levi’s plant. She spent most of her life working at home caring for her family. Being a true mountain girl, she was very comfortable in nature. She grew amazing vegetable gardens from which she loved to can and preserve and feed people. She also grew beautiful flower gardens and loved to watch the birds. She retained close ties to her kin back home and made frequent trips back to Carroll and Floyd Counties to keep those ties strong.
Virginia is survived by her grandchildren: R.D. Bolt (Holli), Jermie Bolt (Crissy), Crystal Bolt Devine (Jason), and Misty Bolt Reynolds (Reg Mason); her great-grandchildren: Skyler Bolt (Allison), Aaron Bolt (Casey), Evan Bolt (Caitlin), Kendall Mathews, Sydney Devine, Chase Reynolds, Channing Reynolds, Evan Mason, and Crosby Mason; her great-great-grandson Bryce Bolt; her daughter-in-law Margaret O’Bier Bolt; and a multitude of loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Virginia entered Heaven’s gates to reunite with her parents; her husband Bill; her beloved son Rodney Dayton Bolt; her beloved daughter lost before birth; and her dozen siblings: Osia Huff, Delphia Huff, Abraham Lincoln Huff, Dorsie Roosevelt Huff, Cosby Veria Huff Webb, Wilma Huff Crowder, Elisha Isaac Huff, Cardor Carl Huff, Vinecie Polly Huff Crowder, Bill Huff, Stella Lizzie Huff Reynolds, and Mamie Lula Huff; and her many beloved pets, especially her dog Buddy.
A private graveside memorial service for Virginia will be held at the Northern Neck Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you honor Virginia’s love of animals by making a donation in her memory to the Northumberland County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 603, Burgess, VA 22432.
