Obituary for Gilbert Eugene Gallagher
Gilbert E. Gallagher, age 86, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023. He was born in Warsaw, Virginia, on May 25, 1936, to James Allen Gallagher and Maude Lillian Gallagher.
At the age of 16, Gilbert moved to New Jersey to become a Union Carpenter which his worked until his retirement. Upon his retirement, he moved back to Virginia. He was a hard worker, a great provider. He loved his family and the Lord. After 43 years of marriage, Gilbert’s first wife, Lillian, went to be with the Lord, after a short illness.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Bessie Langford Gallagher; daughters, Carol Nesbihal (Scot), and Denise Koertge (Charles); grandchildren, Dianna, Allison, Andrew, Rachel, Eric, Kailyn, Riley, and Lilly; great-grandchildren, Parrish, Reilly Clare, Kennedy, Christopher, Shawney, Ronan, and Everett; great-great-grandchildren, Rush and Renny; and sisters, Shirley Ingram, and Vera Lankford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lillian; daughter, Donna Jefferson, and great-granddaughter, Kallie Jefferson.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Welch Funeral Home, Marks Chapel in Warsaw, with Pastor Todd Brown officiating. Interment will follow the service at Welcome Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Welch Funeral Home, Marks Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in loving memory of Gilbert, to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Richmond, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
