Obituary for Betty Markey Reeder

Mrs. Betty Markey Reeder of Warsaw, VA passed on January 7, 2023, at the age of 74.

Betty was born on December 20,1948 in Richmond, VA to Pierce A. and Eulalah P. Markey. A graduate of Patrick Henry High School and Madison College (now James Madison University), Betty spent her life as an educator in the Louisa, Richmond, and King William County school systems. Betty dedicated her life to preparing her students to become adults and she touched the lives of thousands of students during her thirty-year career.

Betty was an accomplished seamstress and artist who enjoyed sewing, embroidery, photography, and drawing. She spent much of her retirement in front of a sewing machine or drawing table creating unique works of art for her family. Betty also loved sports and enjoyed following her grandchildren’s exploits on the baseball field, on the track, and in the pool.

Betty is survived by her husband of fifty-years, John R. Reeder Jr.; son, Colonel Michael Reeder, and wife Amanda; daughter, Cameron Mothershead, and husband Brian; her perfect grandchildren: Austin, Abigail, Jacob, Easton, and Nash; her uncle James Markey, and wife Anne; and her brothers Ray Markey, and wife Nancy, and John Markey, and wife Claudia and their families.

A graveside service is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Milden Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Sharps, VA with Reverend David Dunaway officiating. A reception to follow at Farnham Baptist Church. All are welcome to attend to celebrate Betty’s life.
