Obituary for Doris Wetherald Rawlings

Doris Elaine Wetherald Rawlings, 87, of Bryantown, Maryland, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2022. She was born to the late Lewis and Vivian Wetherald, also of Bryantown. Doris married the love of her life, John “Kent” Rawlings, settling in Clinton, Maryland where they raised five children. A homemaker with an artistic touch, she enjoyed gardening, painting and crafts, and making great memories with the “Horseshoe Crew” from Horseshoe Road. She was an avid reader and known for hugging anyone and everyone, some of whom didn’t know they needed a hug but were grateful nonetheless.

Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband Kent of 64 years and grandsons Michael Rawlings and Dustin Vanlandingham.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, John Kent Rawlings, Jr., Dale Lewis Rawlings (Suzy), Philip Edward Rawlings and daughters Elaine Sue Bivens (Dean), and Karen Christine Burch (Jim), nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved so dearly. Each are left with memories of a loving, caring, and strong-willed woman who remained steadfast and determined in every situation.

The family would like to acknowledge her caregiver in her final months, Mary Chamberlain of Aylett, Virginia, for her love, care, and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Kindred Hospice of Tappahannock, Virginia at 221 Duke Street, Tappahannock, Virginia, 22560, 804-925-6454.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
