Obituary for Alice Flemer (Weir)
Alice Weir Flemer of Mechanicsville, VA, beloved daughter, wife, mother & grandmother went to be with her Lord on January 4, 2022.
Alice was born September 30, 1935 in Quantico, Virginia as the daughter of career USMC Master Sergeant Earl C. Weir, Sr. and Hazel M. Weir. She grew up during various Marine Corps base assignments that took them around the country, settling in Stafford, VA where her father was stationed at Quantico until his retirement.
An avid reader, Alice graduated from the College of William and Mary with a bachelor’s degree in Education, where she met and married fellow W&M graduate, David Andrew Flemer, Sr. in 1958. Alice was an elementary school teacher for several years and a tutor with the Literacy Volunteers of America before dedicating herself to being a wonderful mother and raising her three boys. After raising her sons, Alice started her second career at MITRE Corporation where she stayed until her retirement in 2004.
During retirement, Alice and her husband Dave enjoyed spending time with their three grandchildren and splitting time between their home in McLean and their cottage on Lower Machodoc Creek near Montross, VA (a.k.a. “The Rivah"). She was an active member of her church community as a Sunday school teacher, and member of the Altar Guild at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in McLean.
Mrs. Flemer is survived by her sons: Andy Flemer, Jr. (Shannon) of Surprise, AZ and their daughter, Grace Flemer of Birmingham, AL; Matt Flemer (Kathy) of Mechanicsville, VA; and Samuel Flemer (Karen) of Leesburg, VA and their children Nate and Caitlyn. Mrs. Flemer is also survived by her brother John Weir (Jean), along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, David A. Flemer, Sr., her brother Earl C. Weir, Jr., and her sister Virginia Weir Stitcher.
A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Oak Grove, VA at 11 am on Saturday, February 4, 2023. Inurnment will proceed at St. Peter’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a reception at Angelo's Restaurant following the service.
