Obituary for Carolyn Gorospe (Scott)

Carolyn Scott Gorospe passed away on December 25, 2022 at 1:00 a.m. at the age of seventy-nine. Carolyn was born at home on Currioman Road in Montross, Virginia on November 3, 1943 into a family of watermen, farmers, and military servicemen and women. She moved to Washington, DC with her family as a teenager. Carolyn is a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Carolyn worked for the Internal Revenue Service and several local banks before getting married. After getting married, she moved to Upper Marlboro, Maryland where she has resided as her primary residence for the last fifty-three years.

Carolyn and family spent extended time at her parent's home in Colonial Beach, Virgina and on her uncle's farm in Warsaw, Virginia. Throughout Carolyn’s life she made a house a home. She was a caregiver to family members and a “mother” figure to many of her children’s friends. The house always had an extended gathering of her children's friends playing, watching movies, playing live music, or doing classwork. She loved taking care of everyone, and nothing meant more to her than her family.

She also loved animals including the family's two Dachshunds Heidi and Gretchen, her daughter's two Dachunds Oscar and Maya, her son's rescue dogs Maggie and Emma, and her son's horses Starbuck and JD. She also fed a family of squirrels that would gather outside and sit at the back door, watching through the glass for her to come spoil them.

Carolyn was predeceased by her father Thomas Edward Scott, her mother Margie Pauline Scott, her brother William Edward Scott, and her sister Barbara Jean Scott.

She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-four years Erwin D. Gorospe, her son Stephen Erwin Gorospe, her daughter Angela Diane Magruder (Robert Erdmann), and her two grandsons Parker Stephen Magruder and Peyton Scott Magruder.

She is lovingly remembered by her cousins Judy Brauning, Mary Jane Singer, Nancy Everson, and many other relatives.

Visitation will be on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 11:00 to 1:00 at Welch Funeral Home, immediately followed by a graveside service and interment at Providence United Methodist Church. Family and friends will gather and light refreshments will be offered following the graveside service.
