Obituary for Wilma Gentry Pierson

Wilma Gentry Pierson, 100, of Farnham, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at her residence. Mrs. Pierson was born on September 11, 1922 to Miles Harding and Effie Bentley Gentry. Wilma moved to Richmond County in 1941 where she married her husband, Elmer “Earl” Pierson. She had a thirty year career with the county driving the school bus. Wilma had a passion for sewing. Wilma was of the Christian faith and centered her life around her faith, family and friends.

Wilma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her three daughters: Elizabeth Reedy of Mt. Crawford, Virginia, Waverley and Norma Pierson of Sumter, South Carolina; her son, Lynwood Pierson of Warsaw, Virginia; eight grandchildren: Edward, Tony, Joe, Theresa, Cindy, Heath, Derek, and Kyle; four step-grandchildren: Jamie, Jeremy, Charlene, and Alan; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by a sister, Lillie Flippo of Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Wilma is preceded in death by her husband of forty-four years, Earl and her son, Myles. She is also preceded in death by two sisters, Lena Gentry and Pauline Hockaday, and brother, Lester Gentry.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 28, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home- Marks Chapel in Warsaw, Virginia. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Kilmarnock, Virginia. A viewing will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
