Obituary for Irma Lucille France (Barton)

Irma Lucille Barton France, 82, of Warsaw, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2022. She was born on May 20, 1940 to the late Raymond Alexander and Essie Lucille Hanks Barton. Irma was a graduate of Farnham High School in Farnham, Virginia. She was deeply rooted in her faith; she always loved reading her Bible, listening to hymns, and enjoying different sermons. A cowgirl at heart, she could be found riding horses, country western line dancing, and wearing her cowgirl boots. Irma was an avid reader and an animal lover. She loved sharing stories of her life growing up in the Northern Neck and her time spent in Baltimore, and treasured those memories dearly. Irma spent summers running a produce stand in Baltimore with her husband, Freddie. Irma was a beautician by trade, she had a flair for fashion and for helping people look and feel their best, and never trusted anyone to cut her own hair but herself. She always felt happiest visiting sandy beaches or watching the leaves change in the mountains, and nurtured a joy for painting by capturing the beauty of all of God’s landscapes. Irma will always be remembered for her sweet tooth and love of cooking, as well as her knack for finding new and interesting recipes.

Her greatest happiness was her family and extended family, and she always loved spending as much time with them as she could. She is survived by a son, Daniel Ray France, who graciously served as her caregiver in the final years of her life. She is also survived by nieces, Leah Sydnor Rawley (Daniel) and Emily Lucille Sydnor (Jakob Miner). She was also blessed with many numerous cousins, extended family, nieces and nephews, friends, and loved ones who she cherished dearly.

Along with her parents, Irma was also preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Daniel France; and her beloved sister Deborah Lee Barton Sydnor.

The family would like to thank the staff of VCU and their hospice team for their loving care in her final days.
