Richard James Gibson, 76, of Lottsburg, Virginia, died on September 3, 2022. He was born in Portage, Indiana, to the late Charles and Edith Gibson on October 1, 1945. After growing up in Portage, he served in the Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He graduated from the University of Maryland and served as a physical security specialist for many years for the government and other organizations before forming his own business, Stratford Technology. Richard was a devout Lutheran and filled many roles with the church as a Sunday School teacher, lay minister, and elder.

Richard is survived by his wife Janet; children: Charles, Annabelle, David, and Lawrence(Stephanie); grandchildren Leah and Caleb; brother William (Bill) Gibson; sister Barbara Loverich; and half-brother Lee Delmage.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at the Northern Neck Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Callao, Virginia, with Pastor Bruce Alkire of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Callao officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are by Welch Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Callao, Virginia, or to the American Cancer Society.
