Obituary for LaBirda Washington Morris (Brooks)

LaBirda Washington Morris, 95, of Warsaw, Virginia passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, August 28, 2022.  She was born in Essex County, Virginia to the late George Washington Brooks and the late Mary Brizendine Brooks.  LaBirda was the widow of Norris Ogle Morris who predeceased her after over 32 years of marriage.  She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Tappahannock.
 
LaBirda loved her family more than anything. She grew up on a farm and developed a deep love of both farm animals and pets as a small child and kept this love her entire life. She was a country girl at heart and adored being outside in nature. LaBirda had a deep and abiding love for nature and all that Jehovah created, especially birds. She was a thoughtful, giving, and loving person who was always smiling. She was an avid letter writer who always had thoughtful words of encouragement for everyone. LaBirda was also a talented seamstress. She was able to appreciate the smallest things in life and taught her family to value life in a way that made all of us grateful She will be missed immensely.
 
Left to cherish LaBirda’s memory are her daughter Sherry LaGrow and her husband Butch; her daughter Diane Morris Brann and her husband Wayne; her son, David Morris and his wife Vicky; her beloved grandchildren:  Jaime LaGrow, Mandy McGeorge, Katie LaGrow, Michael Brann (Cara), Jackie LaGrow, Kimberly Morris, and Kathryn Morris; her great-grandchildren:  Aaron McGeorge, Taylor McGeorge-Hook (Ron) and several others.  She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her grandson-in-law Brad McGeorge; and her siblings:  St. Elmo Brooks, Margaret “Baby” Dowdy, Gipsy Loving, George Brooks.
 
A graveside funeral service will be held for LaBirda on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rappahannock Baptist Church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that you honor LaBirda’s deep love for animals by making a donation in her memory to either the Richmond County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 1371, Warsaw, VA  22572 or to the Lancaster County Animal Shelter, 3156 Regina Road, Lancaster, VA  22530.
