Obituary for Dorothy Jeane Belfield (Coates)
Dorothy Jeane Coates Belfield of Warsaw, VA passed away peacefully in her home with her beloved family close by her side on July 27, 2022. Jeane was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and spent her life caring for the people she loved. Jeane was born in Newland, VA to F.C. “Cort” Coates and Leona Barrett Coates. She was the widow of her high school sweetheart George Gaylord Belfield Sr. whom she was happily married to for 55 wonderful years. Jeane was a member of Cobham Park Baptist Church.
Jeane was a loving and kind-hearted person who always put her family first. She centered her life around Gaylord, their four children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. No one was ever a stranger in Gaylord and
Jeane’s home on Morgan Lane and thousands of meals and conversations were had at their kitchen table.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons George Gaylord Belfield Jr. and Ronald Lane Belfield; her daughters Deborah Belfield Stacks and Wendy Byrd Pauley (Loyd); her grandchildren: George Gaylord “G.G.” Belfield III, Eric Travis Belfield (Amber), Robert Frances Belfield (Brooke), Robert Blake Byrd (Elizabeth), Kayla Britlyn Bryant (Caleb), and Sydney Belfield Byrd. She also leaves behind 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and sisters, Ethel Coates and Hildegarde Northern.
A celebration of life and inurnment for Jeane will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Cobham Park Baptist Cemetery. The Reverends Keith Williams and Willard Bowen will officiate the service. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation in Jeane’s honor to Cobham Park Baptist Church; P.O. Box 306 Warsaw, VA 22572.
