Obituary for Dwayne Mannen Freeman

Dwayne Mannen Freeman, 55, of Callao passed away after a brief, fierce and very courageous battle with cancer. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by love and family. Dwayne was born in Maryland to Oren Mannen Freeman and Frances Mae Griffin Freeman. Until his illness prevented it, Dwayne was a construction contractor whose work took him to many different states and cities. He attended Totuskey Baptist Church.

Dwayne was happiest when his hands were busy, whether it was with his equipment at work, his woodworking tools at home, or a fishing pole down by the water. He often had a bunch of grandkids around, especially his little sidekick Jaxson. Dwayne adored his family and worked hard for them. Dwayne was a talented woodworker and enjoyed making one-of-a-kind walking sticks. He loved dogs, and relaxing outside on his porch enjoying the country. On Sundays, you could find him kicked back watching Nascar.

Dwayne is survived by his parents Oren and Frances; the love of his life, his partner of 28 years, Laurie Ann Scales; his beloved children: Robert D. “Beebop” (Abbey), Allen (Trista), Robert “B.J.” (Carrie), Tony (Ashley), and Shelby (Jeremy). He is also survived by the lights of his life, his grandchildren: Chloe, Callie, Cammie, Ayden, Hannah, Landen, Ethan, Hayden, Alena, Brayden, Caleb, Tristan, Camden, Oaklynn, Anthony, Jr., Abigail, Jaxson and Austin. Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers Darrell (Traci) and Douglas and his sister Dawn (Craig) and a whole host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dwayne also leaves behind his faithful shadow, his dog BoBo. Preceding him in death and welcoming him at heaven’s door are his uncle and best friend Steven “Griff”, his niece Deanna, and his precious granddaughter Rilee.

A celebration of life for Dwayne will be held at Totuskey Baptist Church on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend David Dunaway will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation in loving memory of Dwayne to Totuskey Baptist Church, P.O. Box 100, Haynesville, VA 22472.
