Obituary for Hilda Elaine "Hilane" Evans (Norris)

Hilda Elaine Norris Evans, 88, known as “Hilane” to her friends and family, left her Earthly life after a brief illness. Hilda was born in Washington, D.C. to the late Harry Leroy Norris and the late Ethel Louise Hudson Norris. She was the widow of Franklin Evans. She married Franklin in 1955. After their marriage, Hilda returned with Franklin to his hometown of Callao. The big city girl made the Northern Neck her home in short order, making a home, raising her family, and starting her real estate company.

Hilane was a real estate agent and broker with her offices in Callao. Her outgoing personality, vivacious nature, and sense of style made her a natural at real estate and over the years she helped many people find their perfect home in the community she loved. Many of her clients became friends. She loved flower gardening and made her house a welcoming home inside and out. Hilane was also an incredibly gifted artist. She was an oil painter and traveled all over to show her work. Frequently attending exhibitions with her was her sister Bootsie, also a talented artist.

Above all, however, she was an exceptional mother and grandmother. The sweet, gentle care and attention that she lavished on us will be profoundly missed. Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Janice E. King (Mike); her son, Dan Franklin Evans; her grandsons, Kyle F. King (Maggie) and Daniel F. Evans; and the apple of her eye, her great-granddaughter Madison King. She is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews. Hilane was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother Leroy Norris; and her sister Louise “Bootsie” Booth. She also leaves behind her beloved friend, her dog Tucker.

A private family celebration of Hilane’s life will be held at a date in the near future. If you would like to express your sympathy the family asks that you make a donation in Hilane’s loving memory to the Northumberland County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 603, Burgess, VA 22432 to honor her love of animals.
