Obituary for Mary Jane Knight (Daiger)

Mary Jane Knight, 86, of Locust Grove, Virginia, and formerly of Arlington and Tidwells, Virginia, moved to Heaven on April 1, 2022. She was born on July 10,1935 in Tidwells, Virginia to the late Georgia and William Daiger, Senior. Mary Jane married Willard (Billy) Knight and they made their home in Arlington, Virginia, raising four children. Mary Jane and Billy had a loving marriage and were married for 63 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Mary Jane held various jobs during her career, which included, Telephone Operator, Bank Teller (former People’s Bank of Montross), and Specialist with Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She completed her career with Arlington Public Schools, where she worked as a Teaching Assistant, Substitute Coordinator, and retired in the position of Benefits Specialist.

Mary Jane was active in the community and involved with her children’s school and sports activities. She also worked with the Masonic affiliated youth organization, Job’s Daughters, and held numerous positions in Bethel 20, to include Bethel Guardian. Many of her friends called her “Butterfly” because she was always so busy going from one activity to another.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband, Willard (Billy) Knight; and their four children: Billie Jane Deel (husband Mike); Willard Knight (wife Erin); Mallory Knight (wife Sara); and Mark Knight (wife Christian). Mary Jane leaves behind ten grandchildren: Melinda Boxley (husband Edwin); Kamryn Deel, Monica Mathews, Brenna Knight, Casey Knight, Ryan Knight, Emmalee Knight, Kameron Gwynn (wife Alisa); Dalton Knight, and Emory Knight; and five greatgrandchildren: Lana Pounds, Becca and Eli Boxley, and Macon and Mia Gwynn. Along with her parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by her siblings, William Daiger, Junior, Ogle Daiger, Virginia Wood, Frances Packett, Irving Daiger and Eldred Daiger.

Mary Jane’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Pope’s Creek Baptist Church, 9131 Kings Highway, Montross, VA 22520. The family will receive friends there one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow.
