Obituary for Patricia "Patsy" Albert (Burton)

Patricia “Patsy” Gayle Burton Albert, 69, of Kinsale, Va. peacefully left her Earthly life leaving a legacy of love and light behind on Friday, September 10, 2021 with her cherished family by her side.

The daughter of Mathew Walker Burton, Jr. and Marjorie Ruth Wright Burton, Patsy was born in Richmond, Va. She was the beloved wife of Charles McNair Albert. They were longtime residents of Lovettsville, Va., where they raised their children and enjoyed over 20 years on their farm surrounded by their horses, pets, and wildlife nestled in the valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They spent their summers in the Northern Neck, and a few years ago they made Kinsale, Va. their permanent residence.

An alumna of Virginia Commonwealth University where she received her Master’s in Education, Patsy was an English Literature teacher for Loudoun County Public Schools at the time of her retirement. She was passionate about education and spent her career shaping the minds of the future. Patsy was an Odyssey of the Mind coach, and as one would expect from an English Literature teacher, she loved reading and writing. She wanted her students and the people around her to find joy in reading, learning, and expressing themselves. She will be remembered as a tender, loving mentor and friend to countless people. She also loved cooking and baking and having people crowded around a table enjoying a meal and good conversation.

Patsy leaves behind a legacy of love. She was gifted at making the people she loved feel important and was an incredible listener.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Charley, daughter Elyssa Albert Vizzier, son-in-law Chase Vizzier, son Daniel Walker Albert, daughter-in-law Brittany Albert, granddaughters Caroline Vizzier and Adelaide Vizzier; sister Donna Kcraget, brother-in-law Kerry Kcraget, brother Steven Burton, sister-in-law Tammy Burton, sister MaryAnne Farmer, brother-in-law Layne Farmer, sisters-in-law Susan Albert and Fran Albert, brother-in-law John Lawler, and her close family friends Leigh Ann and Bill Miller. Patsy is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews (as well as grandnieces and grandnephews)– all of whom she doted on and loved as her “additional” children. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister-in-law Joni Lawler, her brother-in-law Pete Albert, her brother-in-law Bubba Floyd, and her niece Jenna Burton.

Patsy and Charley recently celebrated the completion of their dream retirement home. They renovated a lovely 100-year-old farmhouse on the water in Kinsale and christened it “The Cove.” It has become a haven for the whole family. As per her wishes, a party will be given to celebrate the life of Patsy at The Cove. She wanted people to gather and remember her with fondness and laughter. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Cove (696 White Point Road, Kinsale, Va. 22488) on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 12:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Patsy’s name to The Kinsale Foundation, P.O. Box 307, Kinsale, Va. 22488.
