Obituary for Carl Leslie Jones
Carl Leslie Jones, 85, of Centreville, VA went to be with our Lord and Savior on August 1, 2021. He died at his home with his loved ones by his side. He was the son of the late Hugh L. and Lyda M. Jones.
Carl was born in Stormont, VA on May 9, 1936 and was raised on the Jones Family Farm in Edwardsville, VA. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Shelba Harris Jones, in 1955, and was devoted to her during their 65 years of marriage. He was a man of strong faith and helped raise their four children in a Christian home.
Carl served as a Tank Commander in the First Armored Division in the U. S. Army before beginning his career in communications. He started with Western Union Telegraph Company and retired as a Communications Systems Engineer from DynCorp International, Inc. In his free time, he enjoyed researching his family’s genealogy and spending time with his family.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, all of whom live in Virginia: Garnet Leslie Jones of Gainesville, Carlene Jones-Kelly (Al) of Chantilly, Laurie Jones Wagner (Forrest) of Oak Hill, David Larry Jones of Herndon; eight grandchildren: Reece, Annie (Lenny), Shawna (Chad), Megan (J.D.), A.J., Forrest, Brooke, and Ridge; five great-grandchildren: Savannah, Kalei, Chayne, Bryce, and Violet; sister, Blanche J. Edwards; sister-in-law, Katherine C. Jones, two brothers-in-law: Garnett L. Harris (Pat) and Thomas S. Harris (Winnie). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Waverly F. Jones and brother-in-law, Leon G. Edwards.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 13, 2021, at the Ox Hill Baptist Church, Chantilly, VA. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Carl’s memory to Ox Hill Baptist Church in Chantilly VA.
