Obituary for Ellwood Neal Davis

Ellwood Neal Davis, 71, of Tappahannock passed away peacefully at home with his beloved daughter by his side. He was the son of the late Aubrey Smith Davis and Mary Magdalene Johnson Davis and was a carpenter by trade.

A lifelong carpenter, there was nothing Ellwood could not make using wood and his hands and this fact was noticed even by passersby who would stop and admire the custom-made sheds and other wooden things he had made and displayed near his house. His talent and passion for working with wood was evident, as was his love for all animals. Ellwood cared for and rehabilitated several orphaned baby animals, he raised peacocks and he loved dogs. He loved the outdoors and nature. He enjoyed traveling and was a real jokester.

Left behind to mourn his passing are his loving daughter and grandson, Elizabeth Ann Davis and Marshall “Tadpole” Stephens of Tappahannock. Ellwood also leaves behind his brother Eugene Davis of Essex County, many cherished nieces and nephews; and many dear friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers James Davis and Irvin Davis.

Ellwood was blessed to have the love and support of the Riverside Hospice Team as he entered the final stages of his illness. “His girls” took amazing care of him and provided great support to Elizabeth and Tadpole during this difficult time. To express their appreciation for this excellent care the family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Riverside Tappahannock Hospice, 618 Hospital Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560.
