Obituary for Kenneth Barksdale Custer

Kenneth Barksdale Custer, 71, of Warsaw, Virginia passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021 after battling a number of health conditions. He was the widower of Diana Lynn Phillips Custer and the son of the late Redrick Barksdale Custer and Cora Irene Clarke Hinson and the stepson of Orren D. Hinson, Sr. who raised him. Kenneth retired as a heavy equipment operator from Lively Wood Yard where he worked for Ronny Brann. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served his country in the Vietnam War.

Kenneth is survived by his loving daughter Lillie Mae Custer, who will miss him deeply. After his retirement Kenneth began to help Lillie with her leatherwork and gardening. Kenneth loved gardening, especially starting the vegetables in early spring. He loved cooking and what he lacked in skill he made up for in enthusiasm. Kenneth also liked westerns, classic country music and old-time rock-n-roll.

A graveside memorial service for Kenneth will be held at a later date and you may check back here for those details, as they will be published when available.

In lieu of flowers any donations to help with the cost of Kenneth’s funeral care will deeply appreciated. They may be sent to Welch Funeral Home, 10300 Richmond Road, Warsaw, VA 22572.
