Obituary for Adaler Bliss Coates III

Adaler Bliss Coates, III, 69, of Warsaw departed his Earthly life on Friday, April 2, 2021 after a brief illness. Bliss was the son of the late Adaler B. Coates, Jr. and Martha Gentry Welch and the beloved husband of Diane Berger Coates. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.

Bliss worked at Fredericksburg Distributing for over twenty-five years. He also ran his own lumber yard. Ten years ago, he became a realtor and enjoyed much fulfillment and success in this new career as well. Beulah Church was a constant presence in Bliss’ life. Over the years Bliss served his church as Trustee, Deacon, and Superintendent of Sunday School as well as teaching Sunday School. Bliss was a well-loved and respected member of the community and his loss will be mourned by many. He was a good neighbor and a loyal friend. His most treasured role in life however, was that of husband, father and grandfather.

Bliss is survived by his wife of 45 years, Diane; his loving daughter Jacqui Coates Elbourn (Steven); his brother Bryan G. Coates (Marvette); his stepbrother J. Paul Welch II (Julie); his sisters Beth C. Hopson (Robert) and Laura “KK” King (George); his stepsister Sarah W. Hughes (Jon); his grandson Jackson Bliss Elbourn; his step-grandchildren Seth, Megan and Ethan Elbourn; his stepfather John W. Welch II; his brother-in-law Wayne Berger (Pam); many beloved nieces and nephews and a multitude of dear friends. Bliss was predeceased by his parents.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery. The Reverends Clarke Hawkins and Kevin Crowder will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Bliss’ honor to Beulah Baptist Church, 130 Beulah Lane, Warsaw, VA 22572 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
