Obituary for JoAn M. Anderson (McClintic)

On Tuesday, March 23, 2021, JoAn McClintic Anderson, beloved wife and mom, passed away in her home surrounded by her family.

JoAn was born on June 5, 1941 in Greenbrier County, WV, where she was raised on a farm with her sister Gay and seven brothers: Patrick, Levi, Alan, Wayne, Bedford, Bob, and Jerry. After high school, she went to work at the Department of Labor in Washington, DC, where she met and married David R. Anderson. Together they raised four children: Jill, Jan, Rick and Jodi, living in Annapolis, MD, Lexington KY, Neshanic, NJ, Ringwood NJ, Hong Kong and Singapore along the way.

JoAn’s gentleness and kindness touched all who knew her. She loved to quilt, garden, read, spend time with her grandchildren, and make felted crafts. She was artistic, creative and compassionate toward all living things. While living in Annapolis, JoAn enjoyed working at the Anne Arundel Public Library. Not long after moving to Montross, VA, she became a member and later president of the Westmoreland County Garden Club, where she made lifelong friends. She was known among family and friends for her quiet wisdom, selflessness, thoughtfulness, and a smile that could light up the hearts of those around her.

JoAn is pre-deceased by her father, Bunyan McClintic, her mother, Aena McClintic, and her brother, Patrick McClintic. She is survived by her husband, Dave, her four loving children, Jill Anderson, Jan Hirtz, Rick Anderson, and Jodi Goldenbaum, along with their partners Joe Jamerson, John Hirtz, Gina Anderson, and Mark Goldenbaum, as well as her beloved sister and brothers and their families, and nine wonderful and cherished grandchildren, Amanda, Emma, Emily, Kate, Ben, Patrick, Maddie, Owen, and Gwen.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Westmoreland Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 222, Montross VA 22250.
