Obituary for Wilbur Earl Kent Jr.

Wilbur Earl Kent, Jr., 76, of Lottsburg, Virginia departed his Earthly life on February 5, 2021.
Jr. was born in and remained a lifelong resident of Lottsburg. He was the son of the late Wilbur Earl Kent, Sr. and Ruth Katherine Rice Kent and was the beloved husband of Nancy Hughes Dodson Kent. Jr. was a member of Cobham Park Baptist Church and was the founder, owner, and operator of numerous small businesses in the Northern Neck.

Jr. adored his family and they treasured their time with him. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by his devoted wife Nancy - who went from being his high school prom date to his wife of over fifty years; his loving children: son Kevin Kent and daughter Karen Newsome (David); his grandchildren: Christian Kent, Austin Kent, Brandon Kent, Jacob Newsome and Annie Katherine Newsome. Jr. is also survived by his faithful dog/best friend Kayla.

The businesses Jr. started were many, and they include the Callao and Warsaw Buy-Rite stores, an antique shop and an auction house. Jr. had a tremendous work ethic and took great pride in seeing his businesses grow. When he wasn’t working, Jr. enjoyed family trips to Nags Head, fishing, having a good laugh and especially loved sharing a meal with family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the near future and will be announced on the Welch Funeral Home website as well as on the radio when the time and date are set. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you honor Jr.’s love of animals and his special bond with Kayla by making a donation in his memory to the Northumberland County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 603, Burgess, VA 22432.
