Obituary for Ruth Elizabeth Dawson

Ruth Elizabeth Dawson, age 87, of Warsaw, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021. The oldest of ten children, Ruth was born on August 16, 1933 to Joseph H. and Sarah W. Benson.

Ruth was a devoted Christian and a member of Coan Baptist Church where she was active in all aspects of church life. She taught the Senior Ladies Sunday School, helped in the daycare, and sang in the choir. She was an avid reader and an accomplished seamstress. Ruth operated New Generation Daycare out of her home and was affectionately called “Ne-Nanny” by the children. Ruth loved her family and will be dearly missed by them.

Ruth is survived by three sons, Addison Dawson, Jr. (Becky), Mitchell Dawson, Sr. (Valli), and Melvin Dawson; four daughters, Faye Silsby (Steve), Angela Walker, Audra Hoffman (Mike), and Sarah King (Steve); 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry Benson, Sr; and a sister, Rebecca Rose.

Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Addison Carroll Dawson, Sr; son, Michael Dawson; son-in-law, Gene Walker; and seven brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday January, 25, 2021 at Coan Baptist Church with Reverend Lee Farmer officiating. Those unable to attend may livestream the service at the Coan Baptist Church Facebook page. Interment will follow the service in the Claybrook Baptist Church Cemetery.

A walk-through visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Welch Funeral Home-Marks Chapel. Those attending the visitation and/or the service are required to wear masks and practice social distancing. Those exhibiting symptoms should not attend.
