Obituary for Marie Noyes Murray

Marie Noyes Murray (91) died December 17, 2020, in Farnham, Virginia. Underlying conditions and COVID-19 were the cause. She was predeceased by her husband, James, of 69 years, who died in early 2020.

Born in Valley Cottage, New York she earned a BA in English at Barnard College (NYC). She subsequently received a graduate degree in education.

She loved the fact that as a teenager she lived with her aunt in Washington, DC and worked for the FBI. She greatly regretted that at the time she graduated from college she couldn’t train as an agent since the FBI did not yet allow women to become agents.

She married James Murray after college and they moved to Cold Spring Harbor, New York where she dedicated most of her energies to bringing up their two daughters, Kathryn Murray (Warsaw, Virginia) and Bonnie Murray (St. Louis, Mo). James and Marie lived there for 40 years and thereafter, for almost 20 years, split their time between homes in upstate New York and the west coast of Florida.

In addition to being a homemaker she had a small home-based business and did considerable volunteer work. Tennis, gardening, watercolor painting, bridge, extensive reading were all passions. She was a great animal lover. She shared many many trips throughout the world with her husband, and they often traveled with friends.

A small family ceremony will take place in New York this summer.
