Anderson Shumate “Andy” Johnston, age 82 of Heathsville, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. He was born on March 18, 1938 to Taylor and Gertrude Johnston. Andy was a member of Farnham Episcopal Church.

Andy was a Budget Analyst with the USDA. He was an avid sports fans and enjoyed golf and cheering on the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Orioles. Andy was an All American lacrosse player in high school. He sang with the Virginians, the Historyland Chorus, and a Barbershop Quartet. He will be dearly missed by his entire family and many friends.

Andy is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth “Betty” Johnston; his daughters, Tommie Johnston, Cathleen Mihalaki (John) and Amy Ratliff (Tim); grandchildren, Timothy Ratliff, and Mitchell Ratliff; and a nephew, Andy Johnston.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dr. Dan Johnston.

A private funeral service will be held on Monday, January 4, 2021 at Welch Funeral Home, Marks Chapel with Pastor Roy Foster officiating. Interment will follow in the Yeocomico Episcopal Church Cemetery. Those attending are required to wear masks and practice social distancing. Those exhibiting symptoms should not attend.
