Obituary for George Audre Smoot Jr.
George A Smoot, 86, of Lottsburg, VA, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2020. He was born April 12, 1934 in Washington, DC.
George served in the United States Navy and afterwards worked at Johns Hopkins in the Applied Physics lab where he eventually earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering.
After retirement, George moved to the Northern Neck and spent his time volunteering at the county jail teaching math to the inmates. George had a love for helping others and spent hours helping children that struggled to read by volunteering as a reading partner through the local school.
For fun George enjoyed spending time with his wife on the water, sailing, going to estate auctions, nature walks and working outdoors.
George was survived by his wife Beverly; his two daughters Bonnie and Linda; son-in-law Larry; stepson Butch; daughter-in-law Mary; and five grandchildren: Dustin, Lauren, Emma, Charlie, and Michael. Anyone that knew George knew that his animals were also his family. He is missed by his two cats Sunny and Tux and his chickens Gigi and Yellow and his pride and joy Rhodie.
