Obituary for Joyce Lochte Sydnor

Joyce Lochte Sydnor, 81, of Kinsale, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 26, 2020. She was born on August 13, 1938 to the late Joseph LeRoy and Sarah Evans Lochte. She was an active member of Cople Parish Episcopal Church, where she generously served as Hospitality Chair. Her love of music led her to join the church choir and she blessed the congregation with her beautiful voice for many years. She retired from The Bank of Lancaster in 2005 after a long-time career where she became a cornerstone of the community. Along with her sister, Dixie, Joyce started Something Special Catering which was featured at many special events and occasions in the community. Joyce and her husband John helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars throughout many years for The American Cancer Society through the area Relay For Life, which was a passion of theirs. Joyce had a love of travel and visited many places in her lifetime including Japan, Italy, Greece, Great Britain, The Netherlands, Hawaii, and many other interesting places.

Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, John Morris Sydnor; a son John Morris Sydnor Jr. (Brenda), a son Edward Lee Sydnor (Trisha), a son Gregory Otho Sydnor (JoAnn), and a daughter Lenna Sydnor Daiger (Timothy); grandchildren, Jessica Sydnor (Jeff Morris), Sarah Daiger (Stacy Critchfield), Leah Sydnor Rawley (Daniel), Emily Sydnor (Jakob Miner), Brian Daiger (Mary), Katrin Sydnor, and Joseph Martin Otho Sydnor; great-granddaughter Raelynd Daiger; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also blessed with many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents Joyce was preceded in death by her sisters Sally Harless and Dixie Townsend; and her brother William L.L. Lochte.

The family would like to thank Latonya Henry, Robbin Blue and the entire team of Riverside Hospice for their loving caregiving in her final days.

A small graveside service will be held at 11:30 a. m. on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Yeocomico Episcopal Church Cemetery. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, in order to protect the health of high-risk individuals in our family, we ask that those who plan to attend the graveside service comply with the following safety precautions: wear a mask, maintain at least 6 feet of distance between yourself and others, and no hugging/hand shaking/touching. We also plan to have a larger celebration of life at a later date.
