Obituary for Janet Kaye Bourne (Blaylock)

Janet Kaye Bourne of Coles Point departed her Earthly life on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 after a brave and lengthy battle with heart disease. She was born on February 13, 1954 in San Diego to James Edward Blaylock and Margaret Jean Hankins Blaylock and was the wife of Gary Wallace Bourne. She was retired from a long career in banking at the Bank of Northumberland and EVB and also was the bookkeeper for her family’s business, Bourne and Sons. Janet was a member of Coan Baptist Church in Heathsville.

Janet is survived by her devoted husband and loving sons G. Jeffrey Bourne (Melissa) of Virginia Beach and Matthew L. Bourne (Jessica) of Coles Point, as well as the lights of her life – her grandsons Evan Bourne and Brant Coates-Morse. She is also survived by her sister Jackie Anderson of Crossville, TN; her brother-in-law Chet Bourne (Janie) of Stafford, Virginia and several nieces and nephews. Janet was predeceased by her beautiful daughter Mandy Lynn Bourne. She was also predeceased by her parents and her brother John Blaylock and her sister June Darling.

As a Navy daughter, Janet moved around a lot as a child. Born in California, she graduated from Florida’s Seminole High School’s Class of 1973 and then met the love of her life, also a Navy man, in South Carolina. They came to the Northern Neck in January of 1974 and have lived here ever since. She and Gary were married for forty-six years. Janet was kind and devoted to her family and her church. Janet loved music and was the Organist at Coan Church for many years, where she also taught children’s choir and sang. She played both organ and piano and many local brides have fond memories of walking down the aisle to Janet’s joyful music. She loved jewelry and flowers. She also loved dogs and will be missed by her pups Chelsea, Zoe and Mattie.

A funeral service will be held for Janet at her beloved Coan Baptist Church and she will be laid to rest in Coan cemetery next to her cherished daughter. Reverend Lee Farmer will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you instead make a donation to the Cople District Fire Department and Rescue Squad at P.O. Box 51, Kinsale, VA 22488 in honor of all of the help and care they rendered to the Bourne family.
