Obituary for Joe Allen Keranen

Joe Allen Keranen, 86, of Warsaw, Virginia passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2020, Memorial Day. This was very fitting, as Joe was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country very proudly and then as an Officer on the United States Park Police. Joe was born in Oklahoma and was the son of Lt. Colonel Charles M. Keranen and Frances Littlefield Keranen and was the widower of his beloved wife of 59 years, Marjorie Wessells Keranen. Before his retirement to Warsaw, Joe and Marjorie lived in Silver Spring, MD for many years. He was a member of Carmel United Methodist Church in Kinsale.

Left behind to cherish Joe’s memory are his sons, Charles S. Keranen (Cindy) of Winter Haven, Fl. and Joseph A. Keranen of Emmerton, VA; his sister Leslie Monaco of Houston, TX; his nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, Joe was predeceased by his beloved daughter Vicki Self.

Joe will best be remembered for The Red Door Bait and Tackle Shop of Hague, VA. He was known as the “Worm Man”. He always had a story to tell! He was man of a million stories. Too many to try and post.

A private service will be held for Joe and the family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made in his honor to the Alzheimers Association. A celebration of life will be held at a later date and these details will be posted on Joe’s obituary page at www.welchfuneralhomeva.com
