Obituary for Elsie Louise Simms (Brown)
Elsie Brown Simms, 96, of Lottsburg, VA, died on March 3, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Howard “Bud” Simms. She was born on September 1, 1923.
Elsie graduated from George Washington High School in Alexandria, Virginia in 1940. She immediately entered the business world as a messenger with the C&P Telephone Company in Washington, D.C. The following year she was transferred to the Alexandria office as a Service Representative. She resigned in 1947 to raise her family.
On October 24, 1942, Elsie married her childhood sweetheart Bud. They raised their two daughters, Leslie and Becky in Alexandria. She enjoyed her role as a wife, mother and homemaker. She loved cooking, sewing and her church work.
When her daughters were grown, Elsie returned to the workforce as a secretary with the Federal Government at the Pentagon. After ten years she retired and moved to the Northern Neck where Bud had built their new home himself.
Elsie and Bud became active in volunteer work, serving as Co-Chairmen for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile, Northumberland County for five years. Elsie was also active with both the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. She was a member of Melrose United Methodist Church.
Elsie leaves behind daughters Leslie and Becky Simms; three grandchildren: Jon P. Frizzell, Susan Tucci and her husband Drew, Andrew Frizzell and Brenna; three great-grandchildren: Ariana, Olivia and Cameron Tucci; Joseph Frizzell and wife Lisa and Children; nieces and nephews: Clifton Brown and wife Carol Ann, Marcia Vaughn, Joseph Brown and wife Trina, Carolyn Telman, and special great-nieces and -nephews. All of these held a very cherished place in her heart.
A memorial service to celebrate Elsie’s life will be held at Melrose United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 14 at 2:00 p.m. followed immediately by fellowship at the church hall. In lieu of flowers you may honor your memory of Elsie by making a donation in her name to your favorite charity.
