Obituary for Arnold Roy "Bud" Richardson
Arnold Roy “Bud” Richardson, age 87, a resident of Warsaw, Virginia, passed away peacefully at Memorial Regional Hospital on Saturday, December 21, 2019, with family at his side.
Bud started his long journey in life on August 25, 1932. Born in Kankakee, Illinois, the son of Charles Francis Richardson and Jessie Marie (Denton) Richardson, he was orphaned by the death of his parents in an automobile accident at the age of 12.
Living with the family of Tony and Janette Shirk, he graduated from Grant Park High School with the class of 1952.
Entering the Marine Corps on June 11, 1952, he served his country in the Korean Conflict and retired from the Reserves in June 1960. Bud went to work at the Naval Service Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia in 1956 and retired in 1990.
He loved country music, T.V., old movies, Backgammon and talking with friends and family. He had a special place in his heart for his little dog, Bear and for children, especially our new one, Hunter, who called him Grampa Bud.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife of 21 years, Thelma Summerfield Richardson; his daughter, Wendi Jo Neary-Wright of Maryland; one sister Barbara Jean Pappa of Crete, Illinois; four grandchildren, Shannon, Shawn, Justin, and Tyler; five great-grandchildren; three stepsons; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Irene Blakey who passed away on November 5, 1991. He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Stacy Rae Massey; two sons-in-law; two sisters, and four brothers.
He will be missed.

As I softly repeat it great comfort I feel.
And I long to reach out to those in the storm
Of sorrow’s dark night and point to the morn,
When joy will abound up there in the skies
As God gently wipes the tears from our eyes!
Oh then we’ll see clearly the face we adore
And greet our dear loved ones who’ve gone on before.
Gone every heartache that here we may feel;
For “earth hatch no sorrows that Heaven can’t heal.”
