Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Margaret Mae Brewer Rock, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, where she was welcomed by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Paul and daughter Pat Garrett. She was born on June 6, 1935 to Frances and Waring Brewer in Morattico, Virginia, and was a devoted daughter. She attended Lively High School.
Survivors include her children Doris Anne Kane (Joe); Paul, Jr. (Joy); Lynn Newsome and son-in-law Douglas Garrett. Her Grandchildren Brittany and Katie Kane; Emily Ford; Cory Garrett, Brodie Patton and Annie Payton; and Jeremy and Justin Rock; Great-Grandchildren Caroline and Mason; her sister, Helen Anderson (Bob) and Lucky, her beloved Pomeranian.
Mom retired from Verizon only to retire again from Wal-Mart 20 years later so she could stay home and take care of Dad. She was the “rock” of our family and we loved her so much!
She was known for her delicious coconut and carrot cakes, which she shared with friends, and the pan of biscuits she baked every day for Dad! Her cinnamon pickles were the best, and her corn pudding and dumplings!
A special thank you to her dear friends Alice Kent, Ruby King, Joyce Fitch and Lucille Wade. She always enjoyed your phone calls, visits and being together Sunday at her church, Bethany Baptist in Callao, with her “favorite” Pastor, Kornel Kiss. Kori, you have been a true blessing to our family. Thank you.
The family will be forever grateful to the caring and loving nurses, Chaplains, and especially Keith McMullin and Paula Nicolai at the Bon Secours Community Hospice House for their constant support and love of our Mother.
A service of celebration will be held at Bethany Baptist Church, 16256 Richmond Road, Callao, at 11 a.m. on May 13th. A visitation with the family will be held at the church prior to the service at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Margaret can be made to “Lights of Love” at the Bon Secours Community Hospice House. Each memorial “Light of Love” gift will be displayed during the holidays at the beautiful Hospice House. Gifts can be made at or mailed to Bon Secours Foundation at 5008 Monument Avenue, Richmond, VA 23230. Christmas was always her favorite holiday.
Mother’s Day, Christmas and every day will never be the same without her.
