Obituary for Eugene Martin
Eugene “Gene” Martin, of Montross, Virginia passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the age of 90. Gene was born on August 14, 1928, the son of Hiram Martin and Pearl Hall Martin in Grethel, Kentucky.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Opal Ruth Martin; his children, Mark A. Martin of Sterling, Virginia; Starr M. Martin of Fort Myers, Florida; Jane M. McGill and her husband Dwayne Williams of Montross, Virginia; Hershel G. Martin of Montross, Virginia; and his daughter-in-law Nancy Martin of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; seven grandchildren: Eugene “Buddy” Martin III, Joanna Edwards, Catherine Martin, James Martin, Samuel McGill, Jr., Ashley McGill, Calvin Martin; and six great-grandchildren: Rashaun, Mikey, Trey, Brooklynn, Carmen and Chandler. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest son Eugene Martin, Jr.
Gene was a proud World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing golf.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 21, 2019 at the Warsaw Chapel of the Welch Funeral Home between the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will also be held at the Warsaw Chapel of the Welch Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Wade Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow at Northern Neck Memorial Gardens in Callao, Virginia.
