Obituary for Garland Bentley "Max" McKenney Jr.

MCKENNEY, Garland Bentley “Max” Jr., of Warsaw, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019, at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, surrounded by friends and family. He was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia on February 2, 1935, to the late Garland Bentley McKenney, Sr. and Blanche Ellen McKenney.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Anne Saunders McKenney; his son, Garland “Bentley” McKenney, III, his wife, Malissa L. McKenney, and their daughter, Hailey E. McKenney; a son, Charles McKenney and dear friend, Candace Gay; his sister, Anne Edwards McKenney Grigg; nieces and nephews, Natalie Johnsrud (Brent), John Grigg (Blair), Sarah Mitchell (Jeffrey), and Randolph Grigg; two great nieces and two great nephews; and cousins, Leroy Ward Edwards and William R. Kennerly, Jr.

Max was a veteran of the military police and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was the founder of McKenney Insurance Agency, Inc., in Callao and Colonial Beach. He was also a life member of the Westmoreland County Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a former Fire Chief. Serving his country and community brought Max much happiness.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January, 16, 2019, at Welch Funeral Home, Marks Chapel with the Rev. Alan Hooker officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at Welch Funeral Home, Marks Chapel. A reception will take place at the McKenney home.
