Obituary for Stephen Lawrence Wargo

Stephen Wargo, 53, of Montross VA died the morning of Saturday, December 15, 2018. He was born December 9, 1965 in New Castle, PA and was the son of the late Albert and JoAnn Wargo.
Mr. Wargo was a retired Science teacher at La Plata High School, and in Charles Co. He earned a degree of Education from Slippery Rock University, and a Master’s degree from Notre Dame. Steve was also a Master Electrician and instructor. He also held a Maritime Captain’s license.
Steve was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a through hiker of the Appalachian Trail, known as the “Husky Hiker” and “Stumblin’ Steve”. Steve was a renaissance man and an adventurer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his motorcycle, boating, and loved his family and friends.
He is survived by one nephew, Carl Wargo of Green, Ohio; two nieces: Tina Dietrich of Lancaster, PA, and Kelly Wargo of Washington, DC; and an aunt, Julie Mullen of North Carolina.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 3, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Welch’s Funeral Home, located at 17546 Kings Ave Montross, VA 22520. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 4th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Father Andrew Heinz will officiate. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery located in New Castle, Pennsylvania the following week.
