Obituary for Howard Nash Jr.

Print
Howard Nash, Jr., 92, of Callao, passed away Monday, November 26, 2018. He was a Carmel United Methodist Church member, a founding member of the Callao Ruritan Club, as well as a member of the Heathsville Masonic Lodge and Acca Temple Shrine, where he was a member of the Legion of Honor. Howard served in the U.S. Air Force and was a World War II Veteran and was stationed in Panama where he packed parachutes. While in Panama, he also played baseball for the camp team which included several professional players. After the war he graduated from RPI (now VCU). He later worked as a grain inspector and ran a local granary in Nomini Grove; he then began his employment with the State Health Department as a Sanitarian. He was a real outdoor person who loved gardening and cared for the local ball fields, but was better known for being a kind and wonderful father and grandfather by his loved ones.

Howard is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ola Rae Thrift Nash; two sons, Howard Lynn Nash and Dale Robert Nash (Nettie); two daughters, Ann Russell Newsome (Gordon Lee) and Marsha Rae Nash; two brothers, Wellington Nash (Shirley) and Bobby Nash (Marion Lee); five grandchildren, Crystal Ann McKay, Nicholas Lee Newsome, Justin Craig Newsome, Brian Lee VanLandingham and Caitlin Elizabeth VanLandingham; five great-grandchildren, Leann McKay, Aidan McKay, Avery Newsome, Whitt Newsome and Colton Lee VanLandingham. Special thanks to loving caregivers: Doris, Avis, Brenda, Beverly, Katie and BB.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Carmel United Methodist Church with interment following in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service from 1 pm to 2 pm at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children at 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607 or to Riverside Tappahannock Hospice, 129 Hospital Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560.
