Obituary for Phyllis Lee Messner (Patrick)

Phyllis Lee (Patrick) Messner

Phyllis passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully on Sunday, October 14,2018 at the age of 89.
Born into a large family in West Virginia, a coal miner's daughter, she spent most of her adult life in Massachusetts, finally living with her daughter Vivian in Oak Grove, Virginia for the last five years.
She lived a great, adventurous life that included travels to Hawaii, Cuba, Cancun Mexico, Edinburgh Scotland and Puerto Rico. She was a feisty, fun, opinionated and active woman who had slowed down a bit in later years but still enjoyed her visits to the senior center for crafting and exercise, local thrift shops looking for her bargains, dining out and visiting friends. She was "old school" and never left the house without her make- up, jewelry and appropriate outfit...and wrote wonderful thank you notes for everything. Phyllis had been very active in her church, garden club and supported various veteran’s charities. She was a voracious reader, loved her flowers and truly enjoyed her "just a little bit of sweets" for dessert!
She was a kind and generous soul who will be missed.
Phyllis was pre-deceased by her husband Emil and daughter Karen. She is survived by daughter Vivian Messner, son John Messner and his wife Donna and son Craig Messner and his wife Allison and their daughters Carleigh, Mallory and Audrey; her brothers Charles Patrick (Cathy), John Wayne Patrick (Jutta), Randall Patrick (Merilee) and Gary Patrick (Betty)
A celebration of her life will be held 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Oak Grove Vol. Fire Department on Sunday, October 21, 2018, 121 James Madison Highway, Colonial Beach, VA 22443.
Condolences may be expressed to the family via Vivian Messner, 178 Ebb Tide Dr, Colonial Beach, VA 22443.
