Obituary for Joan Albert Lawler

Joan Albert Lawler (October 23, 1949-August 20, 2018)

Joan Albert Lawler, 68, of Sandy Point, Virginia passed into God's arms on August 20, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. A passionate philanthropist and community leader in the Northern Neck of Virginia, she was a driving force in numerous charitable efforts and fundraising campaigns for organizations especially the Garden Club of the Northern Neck of Virginia, the Haven Shelter, Kinsale Foundation, Menokin Foundation, Sandy Point Homeowners Association, St. Margaret's School, St. Paul's
Catholic Mission, Stratford Hall, and the Rappahannock Community College.

In 1971 she graduated with a B.A. from the University of Vermont where she was
a member of Alpha Chi Omega. She worked on Capitol Hill in the 1970s and subsequently in real estate at East West Financial Services, as well as other companies formed with her husband. In Washington, D.C., she was actively involved with Our Lady of Victory parish and school.

She will be dearly missed by her husband of 43 years, John Edward Lawler; three daughters, Abigail Lawler Bangser and husband Matthew Philip Bangser of New Canaan, CT; Laura Albert Lawler and fiancée Anna Beck of Madison, WI; and Anna-Elizabeth Albert Lawler of Sandy Point; a grandson, Simon Albert Bangser; three siblings, Charles McNair Albert and wife Patricia Albert; Susan McNair Albert; and Peter McNair Albert and wife Frances Albert; as well as twelve nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass in celebration of her life will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Mission in Hague, VA on Friday, August 24 at 11 am. Memorial contributions may be made to Menokin Foundation, Warsaw, VA; Kinsale Foundation, Kinsale, VA; St. Paul's Catholic Mission Capital Campaign, Hague, VA.
