Obituary for John Maston Davis

John Maston Davis
John Maston Davis was born to Clarence and Marion Davis of Sharps, Virginia on June 5, 1942. He graduated from Farnham High School in 1960. He attended Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia where he earned his degree in 1964. He received his Law Degree from T.C. Williams Law School of the University of Richmond in 1967. He then entered the U.S. Marine Corps and was based at Quantico where he served in the Adj. Gen. Corps for two years. Following his military service, Maston served as Assistant Commonwealth Attorney in Newport News until September of 1972. While in Newport News, he met and married Nancy Jean Jaeger on July 3rd, 1971. They moved to Sharps in September of 1972 when he was invited to join the law firm of Ryland and Fidler in Warsaw. He later became a partner in the Ryland, Fidler and Davis Law Firm. During much of this time he was appointed as a Substitute Judge for the Juvenile and Domestic Courts in the surrounding areas. In March of 1995 he was appointed as a Juvenile and Domestic Court Judge for the 15th District which served the five Northern Neck counties of Richmond, Lancaster, Northumberland, Westmoreland and Essex. He retired from the Bench in November 2008. He was a life-time member of Milden Presbyterian Church where he served on the Session as both Deacon and Elder.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nancy Jean Jaeger Davis; his sons Ryan Maston Davis; Todd Hunter Davis (Jessica); Gene Dobyns Davis and a daughter Channing Noel Davis Thompson (Sam); his grandchildren Madison Jenny Davis, Carissa Hunter Davis, Sam Wyatt Thompson, Caroline Rose Thompson, Lindsay Jean Thompson. He was predeceased by his son Karl Wyatt Davis and his granddaughter Karly Elizabeth Davis. He has one brother, A.D. Davis of Sharps.

He was a true family man and nothing meant more to him than spending time with his children and grandchildren. He truly enjoyed his home on the Rappahannock River where he enjoyed a bit of fishing from time to time. He watched his children grow up loving the water and the wildlife of the area and enjoying the cycling seasons. He was a farmer at heart and and always liked to be in the garden and walking the fields and woods. He enjoyed sports, particularly baseball, and was active in the Little League serving as a coach and manager during 11 years as his children participated. His was a life well lived in this special place he called home.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Milden Presbyterian Church in Sharps, Virginia. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home Marks Chapel in Warsaw, Virginia.
