Emily Lyell Smith, 88, of Warsaw, Virginia departed her earthly life on March 3, 2018. The daughter of Eustace R. Lyell and Irma Edwards Lyell and the widow of Everett Walker Smith, Emily was a teacher for many years with the Westmoreland and Richmond County School Systems. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church as well as a devoted member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
Emily was predeceased by her parents and husband and is survived by her son, Everett “Al” Smith of Warsaw and her daughter Sallie Smith Twentyman of Oakton, Virginia. She is also survived by grandchildren Stephen Walker Twentyman and Elizabeth Lyell Gilmore (Jeffrey) and great-grandchildren George E. Gilmore, Edward J. Gilmore, Robert Lyell Gilmore and Frederick H. Gilmore. She is also survived by her cousins Martha Lane Rowe and Charlotte Redford.
Services for Emily will be held on Thursday March 8, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with the Reverend Rebecca Rumburg officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith family cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the Welch Funeral Home Marks Chapel in Warsaw on Wednesday March 7, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ebenezer United Methodist Women, P.O.
