TAYLOR, Colonel (ret.) Dwight L., 93, of Lottsburg, went to the Lord peacefully at home on the morning of March 1, 2018 surrounded by family. Dwight was born in Kankakee, Illinois on June 15, 1924 and was the only child of George and Elizabeth Taylor.

Dwight is survived by his loving wife, Catherine P. Taylor of 51 years, his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Catherine Taylor Jones and Chris Jones; daughter and son-in-law Jennifer Taylor Stevens and Darrell Stevens. Dwight has 5 grandchildren, Steven Dwight Taylor, Noah Taylor Stevens, Madison Catherine Jones, Grace Elizabeth-Mae Stevens, and Megan Lane Jones.

Dwight served his country in World War II as a bombardier with the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theatre, in China and the air offense over Japan. He later entered the Air Force Reserves, retiring in 1984 as a Colonel. Dwight was a 1953 graduate of The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va. He retired from C & P Telephone Company in Richmond, Virginia as an Executive Accounts Manager.

Dwight had a strong faith in God and was a member of Coan Baptist Church in Heathsville where he was a past Deacon. Dwight took delight in being involved in the community and was a Past Master Mason of Heathsville Masonic Lodge number 109 AF and AM and also a member of Westmoreland Royal Arch Chapter number 41. Dwight was a leader within the Republican Party and was a past Chairman of the Northumberland County Republican Committee and also a member of the First Congressional District Committee. Dwight also was a past member of the Lions Club and the Northumberland County Historical Society. His many other interests included a love for historical homes, such as his beloved “Wheatland” where he found enjoyment in gardening and yardwork. He also had a lifelong passion for antiques and collectibles, eagerly sharing his knowledge with those he loved.

Dwight has a life-time of accomplishments and blessings bestowed upon him. Above all, he will be remembered by his family and many friends for his kindness, integrity, wisdom, and humility. His family has cherished the time God gave them and our lives will never be the same. Although he is now in heaven, he will forever be in our hearts.

Family will receive visitors on Saturday, March 10, 2018 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Coan Baptist Church in Heathsville, Va. A 2:00 p.m. celebration of his life will be in the sanctuary, followed immediately with a graveside service.
