I most appreciated Bill's dedication & loyalty to Virginia State Parks. I first worked with Bill in May 1992 when the Virginia State Park's compiled 16 of the Best staff members throughout the State to convert it's newest acquisition Kiptopeke from a private campground into the crown jewel of a multi-operational State Parks. I can still remember Bill's leadership in creating the 2 walkways off the Parking Area, one going to the swim area on the northern beach & one going to the fishing area on the southern beach (where I know he was successful catching flounder). I next worked with Bill at Westmoreland State Park where Bill seasoned into the Manager position. He finished off his career as Manager at Chippokes State Park.
Not too many people have a forty year career anywhere, and Bill joins a select few that have had forty year careers with the State Park service. I understand that the 40 years that Bill served, he has been seen and been part of the most transformative years. From the early 70's when staff were "caretakers" to the early 10's when staff were diverse managers (LE officers, Resource Managers, Recreational & Facility Managers, etc). Kudos to Bill for his role during the transformation.
Bill & Linda was able to raise Matt & BJ in Westmoreland housing. What a great and peaceful environment. I pray God to comfort Linda and family. Rest in Peace.
