Carole Ann (Andrews) Riley, 76, passed away on December 20, 2017 in Warsaw, Virginia, surrounded by family. Carole was born on September 23, 1941 in Washington, PA. She grew up along the East Coast and was a long-time resident of Fredericksburg, VA before retiring to Tidwells, VA.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Joseph C. Riley; two daughters, Kirsten Malsbury Riley Dye (Wayne) of Montross, VA and Kimberly Andrews Riley Killinger (Robert) of Uniontown, PA; six grandchildren, Ashton Ryan Dye (Jessica) of Hartwood, VA, Rebecca Lee Dye Dutil (Leo) of Spout Spring, VA, Matthew Taylor Dye (Emily) of Nixa, MO and Jack Riley Killinger, Samuel Clarke Killinger and Molly Breton Ashe Killinger all of Uniontown, PA; two great-grandsons, Lane Olinger Dye and Easton Ryan Dye, and another grandchild on the way; and younger brother, Robert Allen Andrews of Rockledge, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren Francis Andrews and Lois Jean (McCombs) Andrews, and four brothers: Ronald Lee Andrews, Wesley Gene Andrews, Richard Warren Andrews, and Randall Dupont Andrews.
Carole owned The Re-Run Shoppe on Caroline Street in Fredericksburg, VA for 20 years and taught at The Woodland Academy in Montross, VA for four years following her retirement.
Over the years, she was an active volunteer with Flotilla 3-10 of The Coast Guard Auxiliary for nine years, the Friends of the Montross Branch of The Central Rappahannock Regional Library system, Serenity House in Fredericksburg, VA, Fredericksburg Foster Care program, and The Officer Wives’ Club in Camp Zama, Japan, as well as overseeing the Candy Striper volunteer program at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA.
She and Joe loved to travel and they traveled extensively – sailing the Chesapeake Bay and the Intra Coastal Waterway and cruising the Mediterranean and Caribbean. They also toured the US and Canada via RV and train from coast to coast in retirement years and traveled throughout Japan, Hong Kong and Korea during Joe’s three year career stint with the U.S. Department of the Army at Camp Zama, Japan.
A public memorial service to celebrate Carole’s life will be held at 1:30PM on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Yeocomico Episcopal Church, 1233 Old Yeocomico Road, Kinsale, VA. Following the service, the family invites everyone to join them next door at Ameslee Hall for memories, fellowship, and refreshments in honor of Carole. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Riverside Tappahannock Hospice, 289 Hospital Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560. Carole’s “last cruise” will be held privately in the spring with family.
