Obituary for Michael Robert Schulze

Michael Robert Schulze, age 64, was born August 9th, 1953 and died on December 3rd, 2017 at his home in Montross, VA of lung cancer.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Susan Schulze of Montross; his daughter Christine Schulze (Ken Bachman) of Virginia Beach, VA; his sons, Christopher Schulze (Joanne) of Holly Springs, NC, Jason Schulze (Danielle) of Gainesville, VA and William Schulze (Paula) of Glen Burnie, MD; his sister Linda Sackett (Donald) of Front Royal, VA and mother Jean Carolyn Dyke of Front Royal, VA.
Michael is also survived by his 10 grandchildren; Brendan Charles Schulze of Glen Burnie, MD, Andrew Garrett Schulze of Thief River Falls, MN; Paige Elizabeth Greene of Virginia Beach, VA; Claire Sue Greene- Jensen of Virginia Beach, VA; Tristan Joseph Greene of Bowie, MD; Coraline Emera Schulze and Landon Christopher Schulze of Holly Springs, NC; and Henry Daniel Schulze, Ethan Michael Schulze and his unborn grandchild (due 12/19/17) Kevin Patrick Schulze of Gainesville, VA.
He is preceded in death by his father Robert Kenneth Schulze of Rose Hill, VA and his maternal grandmother Lula Mae Melton and maternal grandfather Joseph Tilman Melton.

Mike was a 1972 graduate from High Point High school in Beltsville, MD. After high school, Mike served 2 years in the United States Army followed by 3 years Army Reserve. While at Fort Sam Houston Texas, (1973) he completed his Operating Room Procedures Basic Course.
In May of 1978, he completed his Career Recruit School for the Prince Georges County Maryland Fire Department. Mike obtained his Paramedic in December of 1985. Throughout his career with PGFD, Mike made rank of Lieutenant. He was awarded several awards, including Paramedic of the Year for 1998 and 2000. He retired in 2001 after being with PGFD for over 28 years.
Mike lit up a room with his presence and was loved and adored by all who knew him. He was a mentor and friend to many at PGFD, but more importantly he was a great father, grandfather, husband and brother to a few. He will forever be missed.
Viewing will be held at Welch Funeral Home, 17546 Kings Highway in Montross VA on Wednesday December 6, 2017 from 6pm-9pm. A memorial service will be held at Welch Funeral Home 17546 Kings Highway in Montross, VA on Thursday December 7, 2017 at 4pm. He will be buried at Parklawn Cemetery, 12800 Veirs Mill Road in Rockville, MD on Friday December 8,2017 at noon.
